Last weekend, legendary musician Yo-Yo Ma joined Indigenous artists from New England and southern Canada on the Dartmouth campus to help celebrate the re-opening of the college's primary performing arts center, the Hopkins Center. They premiered a new work, entitled We Are Water, an "original experience—rooted in wisdom and inspired by a dream for the future— that invites us to come together as a community and find hope for a changing planet."
One of our Indigenous students, Aaleigha Ashley, produced this short film that captures a stunning musical performance at the Sunrise Gathering along the Connecticut River to greet the rising sun.
NAIS 25 Indian Country Today had the pleasure of hosting Yo-Yo Ma and his fellow performerswhere they shared the background story behind this collaboration and provided a preview of the weekend's event.
