U.S. Climate Change Policy: A Report from the Front

Professor S. James (Jim) Gates Jr., renowned physicist, advocate for science education, public television celebrity and Roth Distinguished Visiting Scholar (2015-2016) will speak about current developments in US climate change policy.

Professor Gates is the John S. Toll Professor at the University of Maryland, College Park and Director of the Center for String and Particle Theory.

A dedicated teacher in his 44th year and a man committed to popularizing science, Gates is know for his accessible approach to scientific complexities. His many awards include the National Medal of Science awarded by President Obama in 2014. In 2014 he was the first African-American to inducted into the National Academy of Sciences. He also serves on the U.S. President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
